Sunday Lifestyles Feature nike free run

Denver Sunday Lifestyles Feature

Dec. 19 From the edible little "2s'' packaged in Millennium Spaghetti Os and Cheerios to the pricey night vision spotting scopes peddled on Internet survivalist sites, the clock is ticking toward Y2overKill.

"If you think of Y2K as a brand, it sort of peaked the better part of a year ago, and it's been in decline ever since,'' said Mark Dolliver, who reviews new commercials for the trade magazine Adweek.

"For that reason, the ads that have made the best use of the millennium are the ones that treat it as kind of a joke, like the DeBeers (diamond) ad I saw on the way nike air max to work today "Every 1,000 years or so, you should give her something special.' ''

"Or,'' Dolliver says, "the Nike commercial.''

The Nike spot opens on the first chaotic morning of the new year, with a single jogger running down the street. Dodging riots and traffic jams, he ignores dark buildings, ATM machines spewing cash and an ominous missile streaking overhead, but nods in recognition when another jogger crosses his path. Then, three words: "Just Do It.''

While this commercial won't sit well with those who anticipate an apocalyptic New Year's Day especially since the Broncos won't be in the Super Bowl this year it demonstrates the humor that some advertisers are using to spoof them.

Not everyone is in on the joke. FleishmanHillard, a New York publicity firm, cited the fact in an effort to interest media in a story about diaper rash that 10,000 babies are expected to be born on Jan. 1, 2000. There are many, many Y2K watches, including several that run backward or lack hands, and many that feature interpretations of the Y2K bug (usually flealike but cuddly), including the three handed Y2K Watch ($29.95) that runs counterclockwise and shows a bug hugging a computer monitor. (What time is it? Time to get a different watch.)

Designer Christian Lacroix put his name on a pink Follement trinket tray, $165 a pop, in a limited edition of 2,000. Act free run canada now! (Or wait for them to turn up, considerably marked down, at garage sales in high end neighborhoods.)

The enterprising Starlite company is hawking "a greeting card for the new millennium'' a message transferred from database to laser and beamed into deep space, for $19.95 a pop. (So far, Starlite has not announced how it will handle replies.)

Pottery Barn is selling 12 Decade Plates ($49), with matching napkins ($39), champagne flutes ($49) and Christmas ornaments ($79), with one for each decade of this century, plus a 2000 plate and a "future'' plate whose icon is one of the world's oldest emblems a crystal ball. You are not meant to throw them against the fireplace at midnight on New Year's Eve, though it would be no huge aesthetic loss if you succumbed to that temptation.

Korbel, the sparkling winemaker, and Kenny G, the sparklingmusicmaker, have teamed up for a CD champagne package deal. On the CD, Kenny G presents three different mixes of "Auld Lang Syne: The Millennium Mix,'' nearly 18 minutes of questionable sax appeal infiltrated by sound bites from politicians and others. Unless you're a serious Kenny G fan, you'll need the hooch to tolerate the recording.

There's Parker Brothers' Clue 50th Anniversary Edition ($35), its Monopoly Millennium Edition ($40), and its Trivial Pursuit Millennium Edition ($40). Cardinal Industries has Game of the Millennium ($20), really a Game of the Century since the questions all concern events between 1900 and the 1990s, and similarly, TDC Games' Reminiscing Millennium Edition ($25), aiming for boomers by posing only questions from the '40s to the '90s.

In the same vein, but for a lot less money ($1.50 to $5 a set), are plastic 2000 cutlery, glasses, paper plates and napkins, and other knickknacks.

For a few months between Labor Day and early December, many grocery stores also sold Millennium Spaghetti Os and Cheerios edible 2s were added to the O's, for a joke that toddlers aren't likely to get but those are getting hard to find.

"With January coming up, those had a pretty short shelf life,'' said a clerk at a local Albertsons store.

And this doesn't include all the survivalist products littering cyberspace, marketing things like Y2K compliant plastic storage bags, containers and buckets; oxygen absorbers (like the little cylinders you find in packages of pepperoni); even special millennium blankets.

To the untrained eye, they may look like regular plastic storage bags, containers, oxygen absorbers and blankets. But the ad copy ( "Prepare for disasters of any kind!'') and the inflated prices prove otherwise. It costs $31.91 for a 60 by 90 inch blanket that the distributor insists will be useful for anyone "experiencing winter when the year 2000 comes.'' And who knows? Maybe those $31.91 Y2K compliant blankets will be covering the beds in Boston's Ritz Carlton for its "Ultimate Millennium Experience.'' For $100,000, the customers "experiencing winter'' at the Ritz Carlton are expecting, at the very least, to be warm. Let's hope they're not disappointed when there are no Millennium Cheerios at the break fast buffet.

With cynicism increasingly replacing more than a year of Y2K hysteria forecasts of power failures, food and water shortages and malfunctioning credit cards more consumers are seeing millennium memorabilia as curiosities than as collectibles.

"In general, the millennium branding has been a very forgettable genre, except for the recent irreverent ads like the Nike thing,'' Dolliver said. He compares Y2K hysteria to the hype and fizzle of Comet Kahoutek (whose image should be, but is not, on the Pottery Barn's '70s Decade Plate.)

"For all the hype, people take it less and less seriously as something that can affect their lives. It's entertainment.''

And in that spirit, you may want to invest in novelty company Archie McPhee's nod to the millennium: a Y2K Voodoo toy computer ($6.95), printed with a Y2K compliant box and various warnings "Missiles Mistakenly Launched on Ecuador,'' "VCR Won't Tape First Episode Simpsons of the New Century,'' "Beef Jerky Prices Double'' ready to be stuck with pins or other canada Nike Shox Turbo sharp objects (sold separately).

the Nike Vault Recap cheap nike free

Demonstration at the Nike Vault Recap

Led by a Nike Ekin (fancy name for brand ambassador/product manager), the group was shown just how Nike+ works. An evolution of what began in the company's running shoes, they wanted to take the concepts and goals that people set for themselves while training and nike air max playing basketball turn it into a giant competition against the world. Each Nike+ shoe in the Sport Pack, whether it be Nike LunarTR1+ or the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+, include pressure sensors and accelerometers that are able to detect the actions of the user, which translates into several different metrics, such as speed, vertical and Nike Fuel.

With the accompanying iOS (no Android) apps, people are able to get immediate feedback on their actions once the shoes are synced up. The training app includes several different video packages, which are regimens that their signature athletes use when they work out. Through the Nike+ sensors, the shoe free run canada and the app work in conjunction to see if the user is performing the workout correctly and efficiently. While the Nike+ Basketball app includes a workout mode where the user leaves the phone and it tracks their performance, it also comes with a showcase mode where the user is able to upload a 30 second video featuring their best moves and dunks complete with stats. Nike Basketball athletes like Nick Young and Paul George have shown what the app is capable of recently.

When a user is done for the day, these statistics are then tied to the user's Nike+ account, which they show off to their friends or fellow competitors across the world. For purposes of our demonstration, Nike laced us up with the shoes and had us performing several drills in front of a television screen not unlike a video game. Tests included a LeBron James vertical challenge where we had pull of our best vertical (2nd place), a Manny Pacquiao jump rope exercise sans the jump rope (tied for 1st) and an Allyson Felix Fire Run where we had to pull off a set number of steps in the fastest time possible (no comment).

As a training tool, Nike+ in particular the Fuel Band has done a great job of integrating even everyday movements and routines and giving them value. Nike+ Training and Nike+ Basketball is designed for those looking for a little more motivation numbers are a great push if the user is always aware of it to their workout and for those who are eager to show up their friends. Now whether that is worth the roughly $100 premium (you can purchase the Hyperdunk and LunarTR1 sans the Nike+ accessories) is entirely up to the user, but if they will be getting a stylish experience that is unlike anything in the market today.

The Nike+ Sport Packs is available now at select retailers and at Nike's online store. The Nike LunarTR1+ Sport Pack is $235, while the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+ Sport Pack is sold for $250.

Chinese goods cheap nike free

Chinese goods not cheap at home

The premium prices aren't limited to foreign branded computers. Kobe Bryant's Nike sneakers with the Made in China label go for $165 nike air max in the United States. But at an official Nike store in China? $190. A flat screen Sony TV assembled by Chinese laborers runs about $800 at a Best Buy store in canada Nike Shox R6 the United States. But you would pay 30 percent more at the popular Chinese appliance chain air max canada Gome. The same goes for that Maclaren Techno XT infant stroller. It's also manufactured here, but you'll typically pay 40 percent more for one at a Beijing mall than you would in the United States.

Still, some foreign companies have made a conscious decision to raise their prices in China, or they've adopted a strategy of marketing their products as luxury items to make up for the higher cost of doing business. That might seem counterintuitive in a nation where the typical urban resident last year earned about $2,800. But high priced goods carry cachet here, while China's consumer class is burgeoning. High prices can boost the prestige of some products while fattening the manufacturer's bottom line.

China seen losing cheap nike free

China seen losing sheen for IBM to Nike

BEIJING >> Companies from IBM to Starbucks are struggling with new obstacles in China as Communist Party officials tussle over the direction and depth of economic reforms.

China s state controlled media last week accused Starbucks with charging too much for coffee and said Samsung Electronics smartphones don t work properly. IBM s China revenue slipped 22 percent in the third quarter, contributing to the first ever sales decline in the company s growth markets division, as state owned companies started delaying orders, including mainframes and servers.

The operating environment for foreign firms has deteriorated in the last year in a serious way, said Shaun Rein, managing director of China Market Research Group in Shanghai. nike air max In my 16 years in China, it s some of the worst business sentiment among foreign executives. They don t feel as welcome as they used to. executives this month, the chief complaints included rising costs and bureaucratic red tape. firms polled said profit margin would be flat or narrow this year. Only 39 percent are optimistic about the next five years in China; 58 percent felt that way in 2011.

Since opening its economy to foreign investment in the 1970s, China has been a growth engine that has generated billions of dollars in revenue for multinationals. While foreign firms struggled in the early years, the business environment improved after the nation joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. More recently, rising labor costs have prompted some companies to put their factories elsewhere. Now, with economic growth slowing, policymakers are struggling to pull off a long awaited transition from export fueled growth to an economy driven by domestic consumption.

China has pared economic growth projections to an average of 7 percent this decade, compared with 10.5 percent in the previous 10 years. Even maintaining that slower pace will be challenging. Leaders are battling a property bubble, while a five year credit expansion has free run canada put the economy s debt burden in the same vicinity that preceded crises or sharp slowdowns in Japan and other Asian nations. Wages, adjusted for inflation, have tripled in the past decade.

The current economic model is running out of gas, said James McGregor, Greater China chairman of consulting firm APCO Worldwide Inc. If they don t reform they can t keep growing.

Slowing growth caught up with Coca Cola in the first half of this year, as retail sales slowed the most in 10 years, the company said in July. Low priced water accounted for most of the beverage industry s growth as consumers cut back on pricier juices and sodas.

Stronger domestic competition and more discerning shoppers have hurt sales at Nike and Yum Brands. McDonald s same store sales fell 3.2 percent in the third quarter, the fourth decline in a row.

Chinese consumers are very cautious and typically revert to local chains in difficult economic times, Chief Executive Officer Don Thompson said on a call with analysts.

Chinese filmmakers are also capturing most of the country s growth, with rules that favor local productions. share of film receipts in China shrunk to 42 percent this year from 58 percent a year ago, according to Rentrak, a research firm. companies haven t lost their appetite for the world s second largest economy.

General Electric boosted sales 13 percent there in its most recent quarter owing to a surge in orders for health care devices. business sags, the handbag maker s sales surged more than 35 percent in China. General Motors and Volkswagen each plan to sell a record 3 million vehicles in China this year.

Domestic politics are driving much of the uncertainty in the executive suite. The recent broadsides against foreign companies may have less to do with protectionism than with assuaging public concerns about prices, analysts say. While salaries are rising in China, prices for housing, education canada Nike Air Force 1 Womens and health care are growing faster. In the past, inflationary pressures have sparked protests, which the government is keen to avoid.

There may be more clarity on what shape reforms will take next month when top leaders and heads of the biggest state firms and banks have a third full meeting of the Central Committee. It was after such a plenum in 1978 that China opened the economy to foreign investment and loosened state controls.

Opinions vary on how much change will come this time. Industries, including pharmaceuticals, health care and education, will be opened to foreign investments, according to Ken Peng, senior economist at BNP Paribas SA in Beijing.

It might not be as profitable as it used to be, but it s not a dead end, Peng said. There are new opportunities to discover.

With the government in its first year, this meeting may also be nothing more than paying lip service to reforming state owned enterprises and breaking barriers into industries monopolized by the state, Lu Ting, head of Greater China economics at Bank of America Corp. in Hong Kong, said in a note on Oct. 22. It won t be a make or break moment.

Next month, companies will be watching the rhetoric emanating from Beijing. Executives are hoping the government reiterates that foreign companies are welcome in China and they can have fair access to this market, McGregor said.

Cashier and witness recount Fred's armed robbery

ALBANY, GA (WALB) City leaders have tabled the pit bull ordinance until a future meeting. They are not sure when they will decide to vote on it again. After an armed man tried to rob the restaurant Saturday night, one worker decidedMore >>

The next time a crook tries to rob one Albany fast food restaurant, he could find himself staring down the barrel of a gun. A cashier says she came eye to eye with the thief and a witness says he saw the two men run away.

That witness says he looks out for the whole neighborhood. When he saw them running just before 7:00 Saturday canada Nike Shox R6 night, he knew they were up to no good.

It was just a normal Saturday for cashier Shawna Morey. Police say two black men with guns rushed inside the Fred on North Slappey and air max canada demanded money.

Police say the two men appeared to be in their 20 Morey says one of them even flashed his gun in front of her.

Morey says she was walking from the back of the store and one customer at the ice cream stand near the front motioned for her to stay back.

"When I looked up, I saw him at register two getting all the money," Morey said. "I don know how much it was or anything."

She made eye contact with one of the men who was wearing an orange shirt on his head nike air max outlet stealing money out of register two.

"It just freaked me out," Morey added.

After the thieves stole the money, they ran out of the store, around the side of the building, and into a back alley. Chuck Smith lives near that alley and he says he saw them take off.

"You could tell they were doing something wrong because they were hauling," said Smith.

He says these may be their footprints in the dirt with a Nike logo. Smith says they ran up the alley, crossed a business parking lot, and continued down Third Avenue. It not a comforting thought for Kevin Bryant who shops at Fred every week.

Cascade Business News cheap nike free

Cascade Business News

Information is everywhere, to the point that it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid receiving information. In Central Oregon, we can "escape" in a variety of ways, yet we have to make a conscious effort to leave our phones, MP3 players, gaming systems or other digital devices at home. My point is not that we should shield our exposure to information, but rather that information is an expected part of daily life. Therefore, the effective communication of the growing wealth of information becomes a more significant challenge. One just has to spend time with an iPad, interact with a Facebook wall, or "pin" a photo on a Pinterest board to understand the necessarily increased emphasis on visual literacy. The ability to process visual displays of information is important from the perspective of both the customer and the creator of the visual communication piece. The information design function serves an important role as clarifier and communicator.Graphic designers have long used images and typography to help companies tell customers about product benefits and value in advertisements and brochures. Now, according to Pinterest designer Sahil Lavingia, designers are replacing developers as the hot commodity of the tech world. In a recent article for Fast Company, Lavingia describes design as a fundamental skill we all possess. That doesn't mean that Wieden + Kennedy will ask us to create the next Nike ad campaign. It does indicate that we should recognize the role conscious design plays in created systems and environments, and strive to improve our own design awareness skills.Develop a Design Instinct. You are engaged in the act of creating with nike air max every business decision you make. For example, your tone of voice during a conversation with a client creates an impression of your expertise, concern and mood. The air max canada furniture in your waiting area communicates the amount of attention you have paid to client comfort. The corporate culture you promote determines the degree of emphasis your employees place on customer service and teamwork. Therefore, design instinct is, at heart, the recognition that every day offers opportunities to create better experiences for customers and employees. According to Lavingia,"your organization deserves to be just as well designed as your homepage, and your company's tweets as crafted as your account confirmation emails." Design is everywhere!Build on Commonly Understood Ideas.Every person living today benefits from thousands of years of accumulated knowledge. Successful systems rely on agreed meanings, and a group of individuals can typically conjure similar mental images of a verbally named item. The word "chair" should prompt you to create a mental image of a chair that is similar to the mental image I create, personal chair upholstery preferences notwithstanding. Therefore, we have good reason to expect that the majority of customers will understand some, if not most, of our attempts to communicate with them. Technical terms and concepts will require additional explanation or education. The key is to build on the foundation of common knowledge, and then add our own creative ideas to improve upon the status quo. As Lavingia points out, "good design is using reason to make decisions and solve problems." Since problem solving is a critical daily task for most small business owners, the opportunities to design or create solutions should be numerous.Content is King.Any discussion of visual communication and design should include advice from one of the most respected voices in information design Edward Tufte. Tufte, canada Nike Air Jordan 6 Yale professor emeritus and a vocal critic of typical information displays, emphasizes the role of the content provider in communicating information. In fact, unsuccessful visual designs usually have less to do with the content and more to do with the design choices. However, prepare to embrace your role as a partner to your creative consultants.Partnership connotes equality, at least in the realm of ideas. In other words, trust that your chosen designers will give you creative advice based on education and experience, and trust that injecting your own thoughts and instincts into the process will result in a successful collaboration. Most importantly, this partnership will create clearly understood visual communication that sells.

Cambridge firm unveils world's thinnest keyboard

The company behind the wireless Beats headphones and Nike Running gadget has unveiled the world thinnest keyboard, with a flexible, wireless touchscreen just half a millimetre thick.

Cambridge based CSR, which specialises in wireless technology, showcased a prototype of the product nike air max at the IFA consumer electronics event in Berlin, but it will be 12 months before it will be available to buy.

Paul Williamson, CSR director of low power wireless products, said the final form factor depended on how manufacturers bring the keyboard to market, although its primary use is likely to be as a lightweight, complementary external keyboard for tablet devices. is a working prototype and a glimpse forward rather than something people will be buying this year, he said.

might see lots of shapes and sizes, some as small as iPad Mini or a larger, more rigid form for a air max canada desktop PC, which could be curved, canada Nike Free Run 3 in any colour way, transparent or fitted with a leather folio. Developed in partnership with Cambridge Inkjet Technology, the interface for the product is printed out and can be customised. That could mean printing bespoke keyboards in different languages with ease, or customised keyboards for functions such as video editing and for customers who would like personalised patterns or messages on their own keyboard.

The keyboard touchscreen could also be used under a piece of paper to transcribe notes made with a pen and sync them to a computer.

CSR research has led to wireless products that enable music streaming in the popular Beats headphones, the performance tracking tool the Nike+ SportWatch and the Jambox speaker.

Founded in 1999, CSR is one of a cluster of successful, research focused tech companies clustered around Cambridge and Fen who have recently discussed introducing a in Cambridge badge to promote their products.

Cambodia police clash with protesters at Nike contractor

Son Vanny, organiser of the Free Trade Union (FTU), said its members exchanged barrages of sticks and stones on Monday with workers opposing the strike, after which riot police moved in.
